Contest? What contest? Nary a diddle heard in over two hours of CQing in every
conceivable direction. 7 elements at 100 feet in northern New York.
Had to fudge the submittal form - wouldn't let me report ZERO Q's :)

Hope it was just me in some kind of passing Black Hole ;)

Ron N6EE

I was prepared for poor results but not this bad... Thankfully the NY, CT and MA
stations were there. My DX for the test was FL!

I exercised my radio's final amplifier transistors for hours on end with no
replies. Good thing I did this while shreding papers and watching TV.

Too bad there is no propagation on 10M. I did see lots of others spotted but I
never heard a single one of those stations. This has always been a fun contest
that only required daylight hours over a single day and no decisions regarding
band changes. Many thanks to AA5AU and W0YK for sponsoring this. Bring on the
sunspots.

Couldn't get N1MM working again.
I copied the info for the first 6 QSOs from the K3 display. It sucks if you
miss the QTH because it is soon gone.
Then I ditched N1MM and opened MMTTY and it worked so the problem was N1MM but
when I went back to it the DI window started printing.
???
11 more Qs than I expected!

K1SM   Single Op LP   122017-12-03 22:01:10
Usually a fun contest with good condx.
Not today! 10 was the worst I've seen in a long while.
Had to check to see if the antenna fell off the tower.

VE3RCN   Single Op LP   42017-12-03 22:24:24
Only in the last part of the test was anything heard at this QTH.

VE2FK   Single Op LP   542017-12-03 22:30:39
We must love RTTY to monitor such a dead band.
Eh! 9 Q I may be the winner for QC area.

W6SX   Single Op LP   12017-12-03 23:38:23
Kept checking all day. Never saw or heard a signal. None of my CQs generated an
RBN hit.

The propagation gods giveth (160) and taketh away (10)

TS-590s, vertical, N1MM+

Incredible conditions! I guess that's one way to put it... Best DX: 47 miles.
ND2T and I kept spotting each other and that's probably how I got my other 3 Qs
:-)

W8AKS   Single Op LP   92017-12-03 23:55:37
Interesting contest. Briefly, very briefly heard VP8MO and that was it, dx-wise.
lots of scatter.
still FUN!

KØTI   Single Op LP   12017-12-04 00:02:36
Only had the last 1/2 hour to operate.

W6ZL   Single Op LP   92017-12-04 00:04:25
Worked KI6RRN, KE5OG first hour. Worked LQ7E around 18:00Z. Checked the band
fairly often, but took off for 3 hours to race sailboats on Sun. afternoon.
Very light wind.

Band never did open when I checked.

N2NS   Single Op LP   82017-12-04 00:07:44
N1MM logger said 20 minutes op time. In reality, I spent close to four hours
actively listening and CQ-ing. Tough sledding this year!

K6LL   Single Op LP   1262017-12-04 00:13:22
The band never really opened here, just a few narrow-footprint weak openings

I worked everybody I could hear, except for W7ZR. He was loud here, but the
best I could get out of him was "sri later." Something strange was
going on there.

I hope conditions are better next year!

First time to try this contest from Washington. I have previously operated
from California, Maine, Hawaii, Puerto Rico. So I painted up some boards
and sat down to watch the paint dry...

At the start, no copy on the few JA and USA spots. I did run across K7VIT
- who couldn't hear me. By CQ and S&P I worked four local W7's in WA -
they get a big THANK YOU!

In the morning, I was up before sunrise, and listened and tuned a lot of
spots, but only saw faint traces at best. By CQ and S&P I worked another
four local W7's in WA! Paint was finally dry, see you next year.

This was the first time I ever worked sporadic E on 10 meters. Wish the cloud
would have opened to the west coast. Tnx to the sponsors for a great
experience. Interesting weekend.

Hope to at least double this score in the upcoming ARRL 10m test.

2 mins before close ND2T's signal from the Bay Area briefly edged up enough for
me to get the call sign, but no QSO.

I think there were vague signals in there Sunday afternoon but could have been
my imagination.

KA6BIM   Single Op LP   22017-12-04 01:57:52
4 hrs yielded 2 qso's and 2 other stations briefly heard. I can't wait for this
sunspot cycle to start back up!

NG7Z   Single Op LP   12017-12-04 02:46:06
Checked band at various time thru out Sunday. CQ's went unanswered except for
N7WS in Tucson. Never saw another trace on the bandscope. I won't be on for the
10M test next weekend due to family matters. But I probably won't miss much. 73

To call it a contest, one must have multiple competitors. In a 30 minute
stretch on mid-day Sunday I could only find one station, and I suspect that one
was ground-wave. Maybe another time?

Listened/called CQ frequently. Best DX was TX on Saturday evening. 95% of the
time I heard only Mike K4GMH about 70 miles northwest of me - thanks for the
spots Mike!

Dear Santa,
My RTTY friends and I have been good - well, most of them have been... My wire
antenna isn't cuttin' it in these conditions so please bring us some sunspots
in time for the RTTY Roundup!

W6RW   Single Op LP   22017-12-04 03:38:08
Called CQ for about and hour. Was answered by W7WW in Yuma. Worked K6LL in Yuma
when I was S&Ping. I sure want 10 Meters to come back...I miss it!

K6GHA   Single Op LP   62017-12-04 03:52:22
Spent 30min of the 45 on Sunday in the contest calling CQ. Thanks to all those
who answered. Found two others. No time on Saturday, but suspected there really
wasn't much of an opening unless you had a few major metropolitans located
together.
Hope conditions aren't this bad next weekend.

N2WK   Single Op LP   1302017-12-04 09:15:31
Worked 10 Saturday evening and 3 all day Sunday. Somebody shut the front door on
10 meters. Last week worked dozens of SA on CW.

N1MGO   Single Op LP   12017-12-04 13:23:48
Only had a small amount of time to operate on Sunday. The band did not open
when I was available.

Would check 10 only once in awhile. Happen to come across some activity in the
last half-hour. There were other signals but too weak with QSB.

AB1J   Single Op LP   42017-12-04 14:39:09
Yep, that's what N1MM+ says: 3 minutes. Last year's experience suggested I
should skip this year but still I peeked in on occasion to watch the band scope
flat line.

Heard VP8NO doing S&P so I scooted upband to fish for him (I have a
license) and caught him. Kept him. Soon after I worked K1SM here in MA who was
working out the kinks while migrating from N1MM to N1MM+. I hope he's on Win 10
and not Win 8 like me where N1MM+ isn't supported.

I spent some of the afternoon IMing with my cousin KN8Y is SC. He's a rail fan
and introduced me to some nice live rail cams. The one we watched most was at
Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, PA. Here's the link:

Here's an outstanding drone survey of the site:

There's a nice entry in Wikipedia.

There is a lot of train traffic, including as I write this. One going down and
one going up. Mostly containers in both directions.

And you can enjoy this on a zero sunspot day.

This was another last minute remote operation from NX6T in Fallbrook.
After being up all night finishing the 160 meter contest I got some
sleep and then setup N1MM+ for the Ten-Meter contest. Unfortunately,
client commitments kept me off the air until 22:30. Calling CQ Test
brought in 4 QSOs before I had to shut it down.
Oh well, maybe next year.

Wow, 2 years in a row with miserable band conditions while I was on. I checked
the DXMAPS.com website and saw E-skip clouds in the eastern half of the USA,
but the Pacific NW was not so blessed. For the 2nd year in a row, I only made 1
QSO. Thanks to John KX7YT for giving me that single contact. Now, to start
planning for next year's effort. Thanks to RTTYContesting.com for sponsoring
this contest on a very fun band.
