OF5ZA(OH1ZAA)   Single Op LP   1002017-09-02 14:27:48
After many CWT's (mainly running OF3BCX) first time in CWO... Unfortunately
touring during the day session, so a last chance with the 3d period. Heard only
IT9VDQ weak on 14 MHz, so went to 7 MHz to try out my 12 m low sloper with the
IC-7300... Strong signals from OK1RR, HA3HO and YU1RA... Heard SE5L, SM9A and
SF3A weak on backscatter, but could not reach with LP... Also heard a half a
dozen calls Search and Pounce but could not attract them with my CQ CWO...
Anyway fun to sample quite a number of CWT-active calls... Cheers/73, Zaba

I wasn't able to play in the first two sessions so I decided to do a full time
in this one. It seems slow at the start but got busy toward the end. Wish I
could have had another half hour on 80m as it was just coming on line when the
bell rang.

Getting called on 40m by some European stations including an OZ operating
portable was a treat.

I think this is probably my best effort in the CW Open. Thanks for the Qs.

N1MM+ and/or computer hung up several times. Keyer was still wking the fst time
but 2nd time nothing wrkd. And after the ole off/on solution the 2nd time, N1MM
told me to dig out an old config file which I did. Well after discovering my
WinKey com port had disappeared & pointing N1MM to the new one, I saw that
my NR to send was on zero. I looked at the log & saw 160 Qs. So I reset
& had 2 QSOs sending 160 numbers ... only to then discover I didn't have
the right log. I really only had some 80 Qs. Well, I think I finally got back
to where I was b4 the computer crash ... & proceeded to op the last hour of
the contest.

An hour before the session NA was really audible here in the NEU on 20m,
unfortunately condx moves down quickly and at the start only a dozen signals
was readable... 40m was poor as well with a low local activity. 80m was very
noisy this evening. No runs on CQ - 67% of QSOs was s/p.
Best signal prize would go to WJ9B - strong all the session long on 20m.
Thanks to everyone for a contacts and lets hope the condx will improve until
CWT sessions.

Worked from our club in Delaware County, Ohio, for this last session. Bands
were quite busy and it was hard to find an open spot. I forgot about the CO
QSO Party and hope I did not QRM them too much.

Windows 10 on this laptop was not a pleasent experience. I just can't seem to
get used to this keyboard so I was constantly mistyping things.

Worked Spain, France, Germany and Israel off the back of the beam, which was
surprising.

We had low noise; a few static crashes.

This was a ton of fun. Thanks for the all the Qs.

No assistance used. It's always surprising to me that there is no non-assisted
category in a contest that purportedly is about CW skill. Isn't finding your
own contacts part of the skill of operating CW? This event would be greatly
improved if people had to turn off their Internet.

Win-test does not support this event so I had to resort to N1MM. It is very
difficult to use and constantly surprises me with its unexpected and
non-intuitive behaviors. The way it handles serial numbers is irrational.
Win-test is far superior in almost all respects but its authors don't seem to
care about supporting their American customers.
