FT1000MP, 100W, zepp, inverted vee. Thanks for the QSOs. I still need Wilkes
County for my last NC County. I heard a Wilkes County station working another
NC station on 80M CW, but had no chance to call that station. I didn't get the
call even. If someone can give me the call, I'll try for a schedule. Thanks to
the organizers and the participants, particularly the mobiles and portables out
in bad weather. Please plan to be QRV in the 2008 Georgia QSO Party, April
12-13. Full information at http://gqp.contesting.com. Thanks for all the
QSOs. 73, John, K4BAI.

Again this year my wife Laurie (N1YXU) and I decided to open up our house to the
members of the OCRA (Orange County Radio Amateurs) club members for the NC QSO
Party. We wanted to make sure everyone could operate as much as they wanted
so we ran two stations – one using our club call ( NC4KW (North Carolina Kilo
Watts) and the other was W4UNC, the club call for OCRA. We even ran low power.
TOTALLY LEGAL ! ! !

As the goal was to have fun and make some Q's we weren't trying to optimize
based on band, mults, Qs, etc. but we did quite well anyway. Station 2
(W4UNC) was mostly 20 mtrs and 75/80 mtrs while Station 1 (NC4KW) was mostly 40
mtrs with only a couple 20 mtr Qs after Station 2 (W4UNC) moved to 75/80.

Thanks to Dave (W4SAR) and Gary (AI4GT) for helping enjoying the afternoon and
evening with us.

We had a great time, just wish more members were able to stop by. The
UNC/Wake game seemed to get in the way :-))

Plus 300 bonus. Enjoyed the exercise. First time in submitting a log file by
internet. Good turn out and great NC operators.

150 pts - Cherokee and Dare Cty
150 pts - w4nc and w4ws

almost half of my contacts were with mobile stations.
One of my favorite state events.

Many thanks to mobiles. They have the best ears in the world.
The only QSO on 20M was K4BSK. He was blasting in, and the only NC in the
band.

IC-718, 4BTV, 40M dipole.

NG7Z   Single Op LP   8222008-02-26 18:42:00
Didn't have enough time to properly chase the mobiles so I checked in
occasionally during the day to see who might be new on the bands. Or work the
mobiles (if I could hear them that is). I like the state qso parties because I
can usually win WA state. 'Bout the only thing I can win it seems hi hi.
Thanks for the q's and will try again next year.

VE3CRU   Single Op LP   5,4162008-02-27 10:36:13
Was only home for the last 5 hours of this contest. The mobiles kept me busy,
and there was lots of counties activated by those at home as well. I managed
to get both Dare and Cherokee counties for the bonus of 150 points, but did not
hear the two bonus stations worth 50 points each.

Many thanks to the Forsyth ARC for sponsoring the contest, and to all who
participated in it including those giving me points.

Wx snow, sleet, and pouring down rain all experienced. Worked from 18 counties
in Western NC, extremely poor condx on 20M & 40M. Hope I helped everyone with
52 Q's from Cherokee Co. Thanks for the great support in poor conditions...

I should have bowed out grecefully, but decided to give it a go with a
respiratory infection that made me sound like Gravel Gertie. Condx seemed
better than in 2007, but that was pretty bad. The noise level on 40/80 was
pretty low (especially when compared with 24 hours later which was terrible)
and the mobile signals on 80 and 40 seemed stronger than "07. 40 was a victim
of long skip by before sunset at 2245, but surprisingly opened again to many
areas espeically western NC from 24-02Z, but activty was then quite low. I
managed to scrape up 6 Q's on 20M bacscatter; K3KO and N2TU had very good 100W
signals and N4AF was surprisngly very weak. W4MY switched to that other mode
while 40 was good in the afternoon and I finally managed to find him for a few
phone Q's, but missed him before I caught on. N4C moved me to 80 when we worked
on 40 during the day which helped; I could just copy him thru the fairly high
noise level. On 80/75, I had a choice between half of a dipole fed with ladder
line or a 1/4 wave vertical. The half dipole won out. I had just fixed it about
10 days before the test, but the wind took it's toll again. Copperweld is coming
the the rescue when it warms. AA4S had to fight rain and snow in the mountains
(Feb isn't the greatest time of year for good Wx). Thanks to AA4S, N4C, W4MY,
and W9HB and others for driving many miles to add smiles to our logs. Mults
were down from last year and it seemed that the NE part of the state was missed
by the mobiles except for W4MY near the end. My voice issues hurt the phone
totals and not nearly so many rare ones called in on phone as last year.
Fatigue/voice troubles limited acitivity after 01Z and 75 was full of NC CQ'ers
whom I had already worked. All the bonuses were pretty easy; AA4XX put Dare on
the air in a big way.
