Lousy conditions, along with a NOISY power supply from my iBook made for a
mediocre experience. Still...always fun to play RTTY with the big boys. Happy
3-Day Weekend everyone!

A rather slooooow 4 hours. Just not enough activity- there was more in the
Makrothen contest. Station also wasn't set up the best for this- only band
working 100% was 80M. 20M beam was on 200deg, 40M was on Europe, so it was
difficult to hear and be heard. The linear only made up for part of that.

Thanks to all for the relatively good time. It will be interesting to see all
the stations with 100+ Qs that I never heard!

More Q's but fewer mults than same time last year! Interesting to work the bands
dry then to have non-contesters call you and try to extract an exchange.

Starting at 8PM local time, not too many opportunities for short on 20M, and
precious few on 40M too for that matter. Did a lot of band changes, wonder how
the band change statistics will stack up.

Wonder if K6UFO was in the noise trying to call me on 80M at the end.

2 new mults in last 40 minutes: BILL NC and MIKE MAR. Woohoo! Thanks guys!

First Sprint ever and I enjoyed it. The lousy conditions made QRP really tough
although I was able to get the second half of the couplet in several times.
Thanks to all for your persistence and for the QSOs! TS-850s @ 5 watts to
attic antennas with N1MM. 73, John

Fun, felt PW on 80m. Forgot about organizing a team.

Boy, what a slog. Ran out of stations to work pretty quickly.

Hope next year they don't do this the same day as the Makro. Think a lot of
guys quit after doing the TMC. 73

First time in a Sprint. Enjoyed the challenge of learning a new format.
Tried 40 meters but no strong signals as the day is just ending here in Alaska.

By the time I got on, 20m was a barren wasteland and 40/80 were very
long....only W7's and not very strong, hi hi.

IC7410 ~90w, N1MM, HF9V @ 8' w/ 2 raised radials per band.

The first two hours were fun. Maybe it's time to bring back the 3-QSO dupe
rule.

Great contest! The Th night practice sessions sure did help.

K6UFO(@W6YX)   Single Op QRP   2,9872013-10-13 10:19:33
This is a great contest, but activity seemed down, maybe
due to the Makrothen RTTY contest.

I got to the W6YX station early, where a visit from
P49X(W0YK) prodded me to hook up the second radio. It was
useful to keep calling extra CQs (without answers :)

Band conditions seemed poor, with weaker than usual signals.
I have been operating the NCCC RTTY Sprint every Thursday
night, so I had recent experience to compare. 20m started
normal, but quickly ran out of stations. By 01Z everyone
had left. 40m was open all across the country, but signals
were weak. Again, all the "contest" operators were quickly
worked, and the rate fell. By 02:30Z I had to brave the
noise of 80m while QRP and yes, it was hard and s-l-o-w.
Thank you to the people who stuck with me to complete a QSO.

Final score better than last October, but way down from
March. We need to encourage more participation, or deal
with the drain from the Makrothen RTTY contest.

A well planned effort and commitment for this contest went south. Just before
the start of the contest my software stopped working. I could receive just
fine, but filters would not work and transmit was a solid tone. Took several
hours to trouble shoot the problem and finally found the port setting had
changed along with a hardware setting. Took a dinner break and after dinner
got it figured out, just in time for the last 50 minutes. But the transmit and
receive freqs are still not right. Had a dismally low score, but from other
comments probably ok for the time I put in at the end of the contest when most
hd gone QRT.

Started the evening as QRP entry but after the first 20 Qs a power outage reset
the power level to 100 watts. Didn't discover the change until several Qs
later. So this ended up as a low power entry. Thanks to all who worked me at
various power levels. K3 into verticals. 73, Jim

AL9A   Single Op HP   9432013-10-13 14:21:57
Fun at the start, not so good later. High winds kicked up here just before the
start forcing me to crank the tower down about half way. Had to send lots of
fills due to reduced antenna height. Couldn't find any new stations on 20M as
most were going to 40M and the band wasn't open in AK yet. About that time the
XYL announced she wasn't cooking dinner and if I wanted something to eat I'd
better "Sprint" upstairs and catch the bus to the restaurant! See you
next time!

KI6DY   Single Op LP   2,7722013-10-13 20:38:31
Not sure this contest should be titled a sprint. Seemed like a crawl after 90
minutes. But I had fun, four hours kinda semi-well spent.
