K6UFO   Single Op LP   9452015-03-14 20:13:05
I told Team Manager K6MR that I "might" get on for an hour,
and he held me to it - assigning me to a Team and waiting for me
on the air. I got on remote to New York, and even though the audio
was a little rough (too many people streaming video on Saturday night?)
I managed to work a bunch.

Starting at 0200z, 20m was pretty abandoned, though several loud West
Coasters were easily worked.

Starting at 0220z, 40m was rocking, the biggest problem was having to
wait around to see who's frequency it would be.

I saved my last 10 minutes for 80m which had some loud East Coasters,
so I feel like I did well on Mults for only one hour. Thanks,

K6UFO Mork in York

Never got anything going. Didn't win many jump balls. Wasn't happy with my
performance. Invoked the W6SX Prime Directive.

Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 so decided to celebrate. Even though
UTC-wise the contest was on the 15th. Obviously he was a lot smarter than me!
First time in NA RTTY Sprint.

First RTTY sprint ever, was pretty difficult to get the hang of it at first,
especially being beaten out by other stations. Once I switched to 40, I had
better luck (and going back to 20 to get some stations that were calling CQ).

First time at high power! Seemed to not slow down as much in last half hour as
some previous RTTY sprints. 40M just gave and gave and gave. Got last mult (BOB
KS) in the very last minute!

Wow! Bands were in pretty good condition, little noise here in Florida (a nice
change!) QRP is always a challenge, a few took several calls, but I almost made
my goal of 100 Qs! (Maybe next time.....)- thanks to all that made those
multiple repeats! 73 to All! Steve WB4OMM

N6RO   Single Op HP   5,8822015-03-14 21:08:06
First time in this test with N1MM+. Strange things kept happening; junk
showing up in the logging windows with clusters off, rotators turning without
intent, ESM right clicks slow or innacurate response.... Was probably my
slowing brain...

40m very disappointing with a radio there four hours, 20/80m good!

Activity poor. This sprint needs a promo team like SSB Sprint had last month!

WW4LL   Single Op HP   4,6582015-03-14 21:08:24
Certainly not as much participation as in SSB Sprint but still fun way to spend
a fast 4 hours. Tough going from here with lots of flutter and a wireless
keyboard failure.

Remember to sign up for the Dayton RTTY Contest Dinner!

AL9A   Single Op HP   2,7162015-03-14 21:08:50
The start was great on 20M, but then after the first hour the lower 48 guys went
to 40M, which wasn't open yet in AK. Most of the ones left were dupes so took an
hour off for dinner. When I came back 40M was open mostly to the west coast. Got
some east of the Mississippi late. Beat last years effort so can't complain.

KU7Y   Single Op QRP   1,6002015-03-14 21:09:24
This was fun after I started understanding what to do!!! Sorry about the
several times I had the cursor in the wrong place and sent everything except
what I wanted to!! And thanks for digging my little 4w RTTY signal out of the
noise. Ron, KU7Y

KG5U   Single Op LP   2,2082015-03-14 21:11:10
First time in a contest with N1MM/FLDIGI...may well be my last. What a mess. I
had played around with the config and thought it and I were working well, but a
contest venue made sure I knew I was waaaay behind the learning curve. I was
never so happy to have a contest end.

Thanks for the QSO's!

Thanks to George for letting me use the station. This was my first crack at SO2R
RTTY and it was interesting to say the least. I had a HUGE problem with the
function keys doing crazy things. Well, I just worked E30FB on 40cw and went to
look at the online log for previous Q's and the keyboard quit. New batteries in
and a post-contest test of the function keys in Win-Test yielded nothing like
what I was experiencing. Lesson learned: change the batteries in the keyboard
whether it needs it or not. The only other somewhat distracting thing was the
bandpass filters clicking in and out, sometimes in the middle of a Q and
tripping the amp. Annoying, but I got used to it. This problem we'll need to
figure out.

Thanks to John for putting the teams together. Perhaps I'll be back next time
with fresh keyboard batteries :)

N7NM   Single Op HP   4,1182015-03-14 21:18:36
First time in a Sprint - very confusing at first but finally got into the swing
of it. Didn't really seem to be much activity compared to most contests but
enough to keep it interesting! Do need better antennas for the low bands
however, a tough haul into the east coast. Thanks for the Q's and will be back

for another round next time.

This was quite an experience for me. First time ever on RTTY period, therefore
first RTTY contest ever. Just got it hooked up and integrated with WinTest
less than an hour before the Sprint. Learned a lot, I had too, because there
was so much to learn! Thanks for everyone's patience as I muddled through some
situations. I will know more next time, obviously.

Seemed like a lot of folks did not get to 80 meters or else they went to bed?

These short contests are nice. They don't wreck the whole weekend.

K9OM   Single Op HP   5,2362015-03-14 21:28:29
My Qso's - Mults and Score were all down about 10% from last year. I worked
just as hard, so I'm thinking band condx must have been down some this year.

Thanks for the Q's!

K3PP   Single Op HP   2,8712015-03-14 21:36:42
I haven't done a Sprint in quite a while. It was a bit maddening at first
because I am so rusty at it, but then I got into it! I practiced using the
second radio a little, which is only 200W. It worked pretty well on 40m - not
so much on 20m or 80m. Thanks everyone!

K5ZM(@W7VO)   Single Op HP   3,1202015-03-15 07:19:44
Wow -five more Qs than in the CW version. Maybe things are starting to gel! The
goal for this one was to surpass 100 Qs and I really didn't care by what
amount. Guess I met my goal. Suffered some macro snafus right out of the gate.
Fixed them straight away but never was able to make up for those lost minutes.
Also suffered some RF issues somewhere in the shack when I tried to go to 80m.
High SWR would kick the amp off-line so my 11 Qs on that band were all with ~35
watts.

I've never done the RTTY Sprint before so I have no baseline to judge by, but
it just seemed like there weren't very many stations on. Felt like I was
swimming in dupes very early on. Tnx again to Mike, W7VO for the use of the
station.

Late start due to configurating (MMTTY) problems, going from a TS-480 to a KX3!
I can't say I was impressed by good condition [NOT!]...
But it was fun participating anyway. Tnx and 73

K9YC   Single Op HP   5,1482015-03-15 18:55:51
This was a full time effort, less about 15 minutes trying to fix some sort of
bug with control of the YCCC SO2R Box from Logger Plus. I never did get it
working, so SO2R was pretty ineffective.

It's been a LOOONG time since I worked a RTTY Sprint, and I sure was rusty.
Could have used the practice, but the XYL wanted dinner out.

Thanks for all the Qs, especially the NV and OR stations who found me on 20M.
