meters. Moved to 20 meters later than usual, and carried on. G4NVJ, ON4UN and
SM7CIL were over S9 but no other strong signals from EU. IN3FHE Helga was down
in my noise level. A new house is being built next door and they are running a
bunch of electrical equipment. Some of it may be contributing to the noise this

Pouring rain, but no static... industrial noise as always ... Most USA-signals
were border-line, with only the QSB peaks readable ... a bit of guesswork, but
most stations worked... The energy meter is not faulty: indeed most power eaten
by the amplifier is taken by the filaments. CW is efficient: about 0.6 kWh
consumed in the one hour, 0.4 kWh due to filaments and bleeders... Cheers/73,

Started on 40. Good signal strengths. By 1313Z had 39 QSOs, then had to call
CQ 8 times to get the run started. At 1323Z had 60 QSOs and had to do 8 CQs.
At 1345Z little activity on 40 so went to 20 meters. Nice tail end by N3RD
kept things moving, but signal level was way down compared to 40. No as many
mults available. Did not hear much midwest or the coasts. Excellent as always.

FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1 KW, TH6DXX, dipole, inverted vee. 80M was OK for summer
time. On 40M, I seemed to be weak and missed many jump balls and then the rate
dropped faster than I had expected. Went to 20M (which had seemed dead about
1230Z today) earlier than I had planned and was very pleased that the rate on
20M was better than in recent months. Nice to get DX QSOs with HA9RT and
V21XN. Lots of non members who seemed to be good prospective members today.
Thanks for all QSOs. 73, John, K4BAI.
WA5LXS   Single Op LP   1562017-07-12 07:57:06
Most disappointing CWT. Very high noise levels, S9 on 40M and few signals over
the noise on 20M kept my contacts below normal. Of course the noise subsided
after the CWT.
WT2P   Single Op HP   1,0852017-07-12 07:58:21
Operated from the 8:06 train inbound. New personal best from the train.

The Good:
High power, good signals on 40. Was able to find a run frequency and generate a
Train Mobile Personal Best score.

The Bad:
I dropped a few people in the pileup due to timeouts and just not being able to
dig the really weak ones out.

The Ugly:
Modem upgrade to try to eliminate bufferbloat on upload seems to have
introduced latency. I'll need to tweak some things and maybe try a new router
that dynamically optimizes these things.
Verizon service sucks along the BNSF line, possibly due to it being a packed
commuter train with a bunch of folks all using their phones as a hotspot.

N8BJQ   Single Op HP   3,1902017-07-12 08:40:35
Thanks for the Q's. Got off to a good start but had to quit early. With
7" of rain in the past 2 days, my sump pump died and the well pump is also
out of action because of high water. Had to return a call from my well guy who
also is responsible for the sump pump. We've now started pumping out the
water. Might make the afternoon session.
AD8J   Single Op HP   11,9702017-07-12 10:38:46
20 meters was better than usual, other than SI5Y being the only EU worked. As a
result, this is probably my best session ever. Still wasted time trying to
separate calls in the pile so there is room for improvement.
