Everything happens for a reason.

I spent most of last year planning to move south. Circumstances (real estate
market and family developments) obliged us to postpone the move for a while.
My wife is down in Alabama with her family for a couple of weeks and sent word
that the house we really wanted to buy took serious damage in Monday night's

I am at the winter QTH in Richmond, TX, about 45 minutes SW of Houston. I'll be
operating my Ohio radio station remotely from Texas until old man winter stops
dumping snow and the cold temps on Ohio!

Please forgive an screw ups, as I need to get used to operating remotely

All-in-all, it was fun to get back into the CWT this morning. I wish we could
do this more than once a week and really keep the bands active!!!

The number of contacts shows it, I could never get a rate going.

It was good playing on 20 meters, gave me an idea of what to expect in the
morning this weekend in ARRL RTTY RU.

The unfamiliar call sign caught quite a few people off-guard - it's surprising
how many people came back to me with VE3KI. There is a lot of ice on the
antennas, and in particular the 80m antenna - one end has come adrift and it
looks like it's going to be an NVIS antenna until spring comes and I can get it
back up where it belongs.

Thanks for such cordiality this morning, especially as y'all had to deal with my
relatively new call sign. What a great bunch of ops the CWOps gang is!

It was great to work a few non-members (who, if they appear in my log more than
once will get an invitation to join -- it's recruitment time, after all):
K4DXR, Andy in NC; WB5OZA, Doug in LA: K4QS, Chuck in Va; KB8GAE, and Rich in
OH. I heard more on, but that's all the ones I got to work.

Still send HNY wishes to all.

And, if you haven't yet been invited to join a team for the upcoming NAQP CW
run on 1/14, we members of the Deep Dixie Contest Club would like to ask you to
consider joining one of ours. Already, we have two teams filled--and I think
Team #1 will be in Top Ten. Now, to find a few more who want to join our
gaggle of rednecks. We might not win every trophy, but we surely do have
fun--and we welcome new friends in various contests to join us. The web site,
FYI, is at -- thanks to John, K4AFE, for keeping it up.

Wow nice session to start the year with my best on 80m and better than 100 Qs.
Surprising with all the fat fingering I did this morning -- hopefully all of
that is out of my system. A couple of times when I tried to QSY from 40m to 20m
I heard a caller just as I pressed the band button and had to quickly retreat to
40m. Only spent about 10 minutes on 20m which is about half of my usual on that

Glad to be an early bird in the new log of NN5O (aka WB5EIN). That new call is
sure a lot easier to pick up. Also was pleased that I did not blink too many
times when copying Rich-CG3KI (aka VE3KI).

Great conditions and excellent participation this morning. Thanks for all the
Qs and hope to be back at 1900z.

Cut power back on 80 meters as I was getting out better than I was hearing. Of
course, the rooftop dipole is under 2 feet of snow so any performance is a
bonus. It's also minus 10 F here, so there's no way I am going out to shovel
the roof. Bad enough trying to keep the deck and walks cleared. Of course
there's always time to ski...Happy New Year to all
