Only 1 hour - Couldn't miss the ND -Miami Game :):)
N4KS   Single Op HP   2,0152017-11-11 17:57:20
This was my first one and it was fun. 73, Ken
N8XX   Single Op QRP   1042017-11-11 19:32:38
Not one of my favorite contests. I get screwed up on the moving, mostly because
I forget the I MUST hit return to save the log info prior to moving from a
contact when I'm using N1MM logger. On Corn Whisky i don't have this problem,
because I key the rig and use Enter Sends Message so I don't have to thimk
about this "quirk" of the logging software.

And, I don't like flapping my jaws to make contacts anyway, since for about 5
or more years while a school kid I didn't have enough $$'s for a modumation
transformer or anything similar back in the "just after sp*rk daze"
so Corn Whisky became a second language.

Anyway, I hope I made more than 1 valid Q dring this event, so that I will
exceed the score of 1 which I managed for the spring event. :) Local and
atmospheric noise, compounded by rapidly changing skip and skip zones (QSB)
made things tough for QRP. One notable try was with KA9FOX. I must have found
him half a dozen times on 80 meters. At least three time he was able to
decipher my call, and i'd get his info. But, by the time I sent mine,
sometimes in duplicate, my signals would fade out, or local noise would hit his
receiver, and he never showed in my log.

There were others of note, who patiently asked for multiple repeats, and
finally I made it into their logs. Thanks to everyone who stayed with my puny
signal. It actually "kept me going" considerably longer than I
normally would for a phone contest.
N1LN   Single Op HP   6,8802017-11-11 20:01:33
I would like to say that was fun but the band conditions pretty much ruled that
out. Where did 20 meters go?

Thanks for the Qs and the MANY repeats.

N6RO   Single Op HP   4252017-11-11 20:02:37
Better late than never, last 20 min.
KH7XS(K4XS)   Single Op HP   14,7392017-11-11 20:07:03
Bet I win the prize for having the most nr 1 QSOs. Held off going down to 40 as
long as I could trolling for "Sunday drivers".
NA8V   Single Op HP   5,5442017-11-11 20:10:49
Put in a lot more time than I had planned. Except for 20, condx weren't too
bad. Short skip on 40 is always nice.

K6GHA   Single Op LP   3,4202017-11-11 20:12:22
It was real, it was fun, but it wasn't REAL FUN. Not sure about a number of
folks but heard constant chatter on how bad the bands were. Seemed like I was
down about 28% from pass years.
Have to complement some good ears and booming operators. However, once worked
per band... well let's just say there was a lot of down time.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for better conditions next year for this
And looking forward to the next sprint!
W7WHY   Single Op HP   1,0502017-11-11 20:12:38
Wow - that was bad. N1MM said 1.5 hours on, but put in about 2.5 hours.

Thanks for the Q's and 73

TS-450SAT + AL-811H ~500 watts

80 meter dipole
40 meter delta loop
20 meter HB 2-el monobander at 25 feet.
VE4VT   Single Op HP   3,8522017-11-11 20:13:04
20m was only open to CA and a couple sporadic E QSO to mid west.
40m was long from the start
80m had S9+10 noise and I could barely hear Ka9FOX and ACOW, both usual power

Very disappointing conditions.

Lets hope sweepstakes is better next weekend.

I just played a little bit - there were too many good football games on! 20
died early and 40 and 80 were very noisy.
K4BAI   Single Op HP   5,5902017-11-11 20:18:13
FT1000MP, Alpha 78, 1 KW, TH6DXX, dipole, inverted vee, zepp. Thanks for all
QSos. Worst conditions ever for a SSB Sprint. Thanks to those who hung in
there all the way. Hope to work you all in ARRL SS SSB this weekend Had a
terrible cold and voice barely held up for 4 hours. 73, John, K4BAI.
WØETT   Single Op LP   2,6182017-11-11 20:24:45

W4CMG   Single Op LP   3682017-11-11 20:25:32
Only had 2 hours to participate tonight. Easier on 80 than 40.
KW8N   Single Op HP   12,1032017-11-11 20:25:52
Great turn out of new stations. Just wish we would have had better conditions.
Getting lots of favorable comments overall about the event. Thanks for
sticking with it despite the conditions.
WA7NWL   Single Op LP   3082017-11-11 20:30:52
Good time is always had. Thanks for the Q's.

John, WA7NWL
N6ZFO   Single Op HP   5,4122017-11-11 20:40:17
Time QLF from forgetting to adjust clock on wall. So quitting half an hour
early was really 1,5 hours early! In the middle of dinner realized the error
and headed back down for more Q's. All-in-all an enjoyable contest. Seemed
like a lot of new calls appeared this time.

73 Bill N6ZFO.
W9RE   Single Op HP   8,8652017-11-11 20:44:53
Conditions on 20 and 80 were absolutely brutal. I know quite a few stations
just gave up experiencing those band conditions.

There were a high percentage of new stations if we could only get some of the
past participants to join us. There is a bias against the 'sprints' that I
don't understand. This was fun even with the bad conditions.

Thanks to all the newbies who gave it a try and stuck with it despite things.
K7RL   Single Op HP   9,4572017-11-11 20:46:33
Very tough conditions. 20m was bad from the start. Only the big guns were making
it, and even they were weak. I was forced to move to 40m after about 15 minutes.

40m was good for the first hour or so, but after that the band shortened up,
which is not good for us out west.

80m was crap. W9RE is usually a beacon out here at 59+20 most contests. Tonight
he was 56. I heard almost no stations beyond W6 or W7. Really bad conditions.

Thanks to all the casual and low number sprinters that helped keep things

qsb kinda ruff out here in the desert!!
WDØT   Single Op LP   1,8902017-11-11 20:54:41
Was doing WAE RTTY and just not motivated for Sprint.. conditions not good and
activity seemed down somewhat.. did OK getting a frequency, but making a
couplet was really difficult.

Oh well, just in the mode to give out SD.. Thanks for the Q

Tnx QSOs!

K7SS   Single Op HP   3,9002017-11-11 21:36:08
Thanks to those that hung in there in these very challenging conditions.

40m QSB was like riding a roller coaster. Most stations weak as well water,
followed by a huge signal from W1VE in VT ! .. next time I heard him he was
down in the mud. It seemed that way a lot. A wild ride.

Took time explaining the contest to some casual "not in the contest"
folks and
tuned across later and they were digging it and seemed to be having fun.

Already looking forward to the spring one, with a lot more life in 20m

The Grinch stole 20 meters. See, this is what happens when you let Christmas
creep get out of hand.

Went back to 20 in the second hour to check for pulse, found no Sprinters, but
KC4AAA was booming in from the South Pole. (is that where the Grinch takes

Will say 40 meters kept this interesting by shifting around so much. Long, then
short, then long again.

Heard but missed mults included ME MD VA TX NV SK ... 73 de WQ5L
N4OX   Single Op LP   4,4802017-11-12 07:45:37
Very tough conditions made worse by local noise on 40 and 80 meters. Worked a
large number of new call signs. I hope newcomers try the Sprint again with
better conditions.
WØZP   Single Op HP   4,4462017-11-12 08:36:43
Thanks for the Contacts, Hope to do Arrl Sweepstakes Single Sideband soon. Nice
to hear all the familiar calls , In need of sunspots ! It's still fun in any
condx See You Next weekend in ss I hope 73 Wayne
WØBH   Single Op HP   6,6742017-11-12 08:38:31
Almost nothing on 20. 40 and 80 were a tough go until the last hour or so when
the rate meter actually moved a bit on both bands. It looks like Hawaii was
the place to be this year!

47 mults is good for me in any Sprint. A number of those were very low contact
numbers, and I made sure any #1 contacts (especially new mults) knew what to
expect. Without exception, they were called immediately and some kept going for
a bit. Got ND in the last two minutes from a casual caller who gave me number

Missed CT RI DC LA NM AK ID NE. Heard but missed UT. Worked QC ON MB AB.

We have an excellent School Sweepstakes team this year. Hope we work all of you
from K0HC next weekend! Thanks for the Qs ...

Just a few contacts after a busy day.
WUØB   Single Op LP   882017-11-12 15:15:12
Had a pretty high noise floor and heavy QSB on 40. 20 was pretty much dead by
0100 UTC. 80 was pretty quiet with some strong ragchewing and net signals, but
didn't hear anyone in the Sprint, so called it quits after an hour. Maybe it'll
be better next time!

Hans WU0B
K8MR   Single Op LP   1172017-11-13 05:40:49
As noted by everybody else, poor conditions. Indiana was the only place with
good signals on forty.

Got on while trying to get new software & hardware working together ... a
work in progress.
