Got home in time for 15 min., not much activity, but skip seemed ok - got NY,
OH.

NN7SS(K6UFO)   Single Op QRP   9662014-09-13 21:14:25
My goal was to use the Remote station to make 30 QSOs. Hey, its QRP on SSB
with very unsettled propagation conditions, I thought 30Q was a reasonable
goal.
The SSB setup was new and confusing. I don't operate SSB weekly like I do
for RTTY and CW.

First hour on 20m I managed 26 QSOs without getting trampled by the
Kilowatts, SSTV, Nets and Special Events. Barely an answer to my CQs,
so mostly Search-and-Call-Call-Call and hope nobody else calls, since I
lose every pileup. Lots of weak stations I couldn't work, lots of close-in
Mults too weak to work. Eventually there was nobody new and loud
enough to hear me on 20m, so I took a break. Why? Because it was
still 90 minutes before sunset - way too early for 40m. I came back an hour
later and finished up my 30 QSO goal. Took another hour break - still before
sunset... Then operated the last hour on 40m and 80, but so few people could
hear me on either band.

That was tough, 80m especially not much to work. 73 Scott W2LC

Welcome to the pain-train! I couldn't even talk the people that did it last year
on a team with me to do it this year.

N7TMS   Single Op LP   7002014-09-13 21:31:25
This is my first Sprint. It felt more like I was crawling, rather than
sprinting, but still loads of fun!

K6LL   Single Op HP   10,6332014-09-13 21:45:06
It was good to get back into a contest after spending the summer in the
mountains with no antennas. It took quite a while to get the shack wired up
and operational again, but it all worked fine after the gremlins had been
worked out earlier in the day.

K6CSL   Single Op LP   1872014-09-13 21:45:23
Very, very rough for my little station on SSB. Also I don't know how I ended up
with no team assignment. Although my tiny score probably wouldn't have helped a
team much anyway. TNX to N6RO, K9YC and K6GHA for the Q's on 80m. Bert, K6CSL

N7MZW   Single Op LP   1,7252014-09-13 21:46:52
Turned on the rig at 59 minutes into the event, and heard "CQ Sprint".
I knew I was supposed to remember something this weekend! Kenwood TS-950SD, Heil
ProSet with HC-5 element, and home brew G5RV up 50 feet running N-S at an
elevation of 6,053 feet. Nice to work some of my fellow GMCC members, as well
as WY7AA, my neighbor in Wyoming for my last contact in the last 5 minutes of
the contest. I'm getting more familiar with the QSY rules and I'm looking
forward to the next SSB SPRINT!

KW8N   Single Op HP   10,3402014-09-13 22:03:12
Quite a few new faces participating, but many of the previous familiar guys not
showing up. 75 meters conditions very good, with very few rag chewers or nets
and thus plenty of open frequencies. But not as many stations as usual, unless
I didn't go there early enough?

K4BAI   Single Op HP   6,5192014-09-14 05:04:05
FT1000MP, Alpha 91b, 1 KW, TH6DXX. dipole, zepp, inverted vee. Another NA
Sprint SSB that would have been fun if only participation was more like former
years. Competition with WAE SSB was fierce and I made only one QSO on 40M
below 7200 and that was N9RV, who was working both contests. 20M was quite
good and I stayed there longer than usual. Long and short skip QSOs possible,
with some backscatter QSOs. I had the zepp tuned for 20M so I wouldn't always
have to swing the beam from NE to W, but worked only W2LC while using it.
Otherwise, it seemed that signals into the beam were almost always better than
those on the zepp. 40M didn't have long skip early, but it went long for the
last hour. The AR QSO Party actually made several AR QSOs possible. 80M was a
bit noisy, but was in fair shape except for the lack of stations to work. Never
heard the west coast, but best "DX" was KC0W in ND. Thanks Tom. Many
stations worked on three bands. Thanks to Bob, KW8N, for putting together a
NCC/MRRC and Friends Team again. Thanks for all QSOs. 73, John, K4BAI.

NW2K   Single Op HP   3,2862014-09-14 05:10:08
Good conditions and lots of open space on 80/40/20; only got reprimanded once in
three hours. Several new callsigns with interest in the event. But, <
20/hour in hours 2 and 3; no begging. Seems that this one needs a shot in the
arm.

K8ND   Single Op HP   5,4992014-09-14 05:41:30
I still don't like Sprints, but I especially don't like SSB Sprints.

K3LR(K8MR)   Single Op HP   1202014-09-14 07:10:39
Sitting in the K3LR shack with a bunch of the guys following Tim's NCC picnic, I
couldn't resist picking up the headset and making a few Sprint QSOs. I only
bothered to turn and use the bottom (of 4) 20 meter beams out west. But earlier
I got to see how all four of them pointed at EU played in the WAE SSB. (Answer:
very well).

Why is it when you aren't serious, you can get two Wyoming and a Nebraska QSOs
in ten minutes?

WØPAN   Single Op LP   2402014-09-14 08:02:42
WAS TIME LIMITED SO ONLY A SHORT TIME ON THE AIR. ALWAYS GREAT TO WORK THE
REGULARS, K4BAI, N7MZW, AND A FEW OTHERS.

K9NW(@K9UWA)   Single Op HP   1,2322014-09-14 11:58:51
Given current activity levels, a more appropriate name for this event would be
the North American SSB Crawl.

I gave it an hour....went DXing after that. Ran out of sprinters on 20 after
about 15 minutes. Checked 40 at top of the second hour and added a few more to
the log.

73, Mike K9NW

K6GHA   Single Op LP   3,6752014-09-14 12:00:49
Fast and fun. Conditions were interesting, faded in and out a lot, but it seemed
everyone was equally challenged. Missed a few calls from the other side of the
continent, which were never heard again in the test. Sprint is done, made my
100 yard mark.

N9RV   Single Op HP   1,8762014-09-14 12:53:48
Bands were really quiet here.

WØETT   Single Op LP   1,8562014-09-14 15:12:40
Band condx seemed fine and stations loud, but not too many NA Sprint signals
heard. I think there were more California special event, DL DX contest, and
Arkansas QSO party stations on than sprinters.

Glad to work GMCCers N7MZW for WY and N0TA for CO mults!

73 Ken, W0ETT
Rig: IC756pro3 with 100w to TH7 and 2 el. 40m.

N3QE   Single Op HP   1,2422014-09-14 17:04:07
Boy those SSB Sprinters sound peppy. "Sprint-Sprint!"

AL9A   Single Op HP   1,4002014-09-14 18:42:18
Sprints are tough from AK. The time zone difference always is against us as
East coast and Midwest stations are going to 40M early by AK time. Solar storm
limited action to 20M only so packed it in and went to dinner with the family.
Dinner was good, bands not so much!

K4XS   Single Op HP   3,3952014-09-15 05:53:04
Lack of participation has hit its zenith for this contest. Sad, it used to be
one of my favorites. Now it is a lot of work drumming up QSOs. The remote
keyboard crapped out after 15 minutes and I had to put new batteries in. Amp
decided to see "arc fault" on the 40 antenna which shut me down on
that band after only 13 Qs. I thought I had corrected the damage I sustained
from a lightning hit on the coax for that band this summer...wrong! That
coupled with the lack of stations made me decide to QRT. I just want to forget
about this one.

N6ENO   Single Op LP   422014-09-15 07:05:59
got my feet wet will try again some time.

WI9WI   Single Op HP   1,4402014-09-15 10:51:34
This contest has been on life support for some time. It is now totally slipping
away. I'm not sure why. The CW sprint seems quite healthy. Way low
participation. I'd work a few people and then take a break when I ran out of
stations to work. Activity on 40 and 80 was basically channelized, with only 3
or 4 frequencies in use. After calling CQ on 3804 for 5 full minutes without an
answer I pulled the big switch on this one, probably for the last time.

WØBH   Single Op HP   6,5522014-09-18 20:19:39
80 was a tough go and so was trying to find ops after the first rush. I tried.

I actually worked more mults than in the CW Sprint, missing BC AB SK QC and NS
in VE-land, and missed KS OK LA MS AL DE NJ CT RI VT and ME.

It looks like most everyone else had the same issues. I do enjoy saying hi to
the CW gang who make it on SSB for a change. Thanks to all who participated!
