SS is not my contest, but I was talked into doing this one. Saturday was great, and I was about 85 Q's ahead of last year when I went to sleep for a few hours. As others have pointed out, Sunday proved to be a bigger grind than usual. NP3A called in for PR, and I found a very low number N6EE on 15m for an easy QSO. The pileup on N6EE later on 40m was something special to hear! Oof. I really worried about VE6, but luckily a couple called on 40m Sunday. Whew! A HUGE thank you to the SRRCC guys for keeping the station going and for letting me take over for the weekend. Tons and tons of work goes into building and maintaining a station that big, and going remote really adds another level of complexity. I am lucky to be involved with such a great group of guys! As far as the station goes, I essentially had zero issues the entire contest. I had to re-tune the auto tuner on 40m once after it lost the memory, but that was it. We live and die by our internet connection, and my "good" internet will not be installed until this week. So I was really skeptical about the reliability of my terrible DSL. Out of 1251 Q's and 24 hours, I had less than 5 that were difficult because of drop outs. The worst was N2IC, but it came back quickly and only required one repeat. Sorry Steve! With fiber internet installation this week I should be golden from here on out. It is going to be an exciting remote contest season! Congrats to everyone who slogged it out the entire 24 hours, and to the guys on top. Lots of comments about skipping SS SSB, and I am squarely in that camp also.
